
Trento
Trento is a city located in the Adige River Valley in Trentino-Alto and is the capital of Trentino. Trento is most famous for being the location where the Catholic Counter Reformation took place in the 16th century also known as the Council of Trent. In the city of Trento you will notice the architecture reflects Italian Renaissance and Germanic themes. One place to visit in Trento is the Cathedral of Saint Vigilius. They hold a festival in June honoring the saint. St. Vigilius was responsible for converting Trentino to Christianity. He was stoned to death after ordering that a statue of Saturn be tossed in the River Sarka. His name remains a common one in the town. Another good place to visit is the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento. It was built in the 13th century and was the home of bishop princes.
