
Foods
The food of this region includes traditional Bavarian and Austrian dishes such as dumplings and sauerkraut. Milk production is a large part of this region and therefore dishes have a heavy use of cream, butter, and cheeses.
Although only 15% of the land is usable for farming, popular foods grown in Trentino-Alto Adige include:
- apples
- chestnuts
- asparagus
- mushrooms
- corn
- wheat, oats, barley and rye
There are rich forests and the hillsides hold many fruit trees making it Italy's main apple producing region.
The river provides abundant trout and the mild climate makes wine production popular. The region of Trentino-Alto Adige has three native grapes. The white is known as Nosiola, and the other two are reds named Teroldego and Marzemino.
